Bush Administration Lies about the Lie
In true form the Bush Regime sent their relentless mouthpiece, Scott McClellan, out to spin the truth for the usually attentive White House Press Corps, only to find the sleeping bear has stirred yet again.
This time the Whitehouse has not denied that the President authorized the leaking of former covert CIA operative Vallerie Plame’s identity. Bush did it. He is responsible. However, McClellan insists the reason was because it was “in the public interest”.
The Bush administration must think the American People are pretty stupid. Consider all they have managed to quell - 2 Downing Street memos and a fake, yet expensive, war that is now in the toilet.
Bush authorized that leak because he was being vindictive towards Plame’s husband for publishing an article that revealed his lies about a made-up Iraqi yellow cake deal that pushed us into war. Bush just rolled over Joe Wilson and, in essense, put his wife in great danger. Where is the public interest?
The CBS headline is “The leak-hater is the leaker.” Where I grew up the saying goes, “The smeller’s the feller.” Looks like it’s going to take the Bush Regime some time to clear the air with this one.
Bush Lied….Again.
Grand Jury Transcripts have been released that state Scooter Libby testified in March of 2004 that President Bush was the one who told him to leak Plames name in July of 2003. Given that, a lot of the past timeline that never made any sense starts to fall in place. The incredible boldfaced lies of this evil administration are becoming terrifying. Let’s review:
July 03 – Valerie Plame is outed in press as an undercover operative.
September 03 – Bush stands up in front of the American people and lies his ass off when he makes the false promise that anyone involved in the leak will be fired. What he was really saying was that anyone who leaks the truth about how this evil administration deliberately leaked her name in order to go forward with a selfish war would be fired.
March 04 – Scooter testified. The Bush finds out that he has told the Grand Jury that President Bush directed him to leak Plame’s name.
June 04 – Bush meets with a private lawyer. Bush knows he was named and is going to try to cover his ass. Everyone at the time is baffled as to why he is doing this, but alas, we won’t know this until April 06.
July 05- After Bush conspires with his lawyer, they decide since he was the one who told Scooter to leak Plame’s name, then no law was broken. After all, the President is above the law. Bush then changes his original statement from “anyone involved will be fired” to “anyone breaking the law will be fired”. The press notices, but again since the truth was hidden, nobody really knew why he was doing this.
October 05- Rove testifies to the Grand Jury. Rove already knows what Scooter has said to them. Rove “leaks” to the press that he has testified that Scooter was the original source. Also this month Scooter is indicted for lying during the investigation.
April 06 – Grand Jury Papers are filed in court and become public record. It is found out that President Bush has been lying to the American People and the World for the last 3 years.
Baneful Barbara Controls Donations
The matriarch of evil has poked her head out of the cave to take care of her son, Neil. The Associated Press reports:
Former first lady Barbara Bush gave relief money to a hurricane relief fund on the condition that it be spent to buy educational software from her son’s company.
The chief of staff of former President George H.W. Bush would not disclose the amount earmarked for purchases from Ignite Learning.
Since Barbara Bush’s gift, the Ignite Learning program has been given to eight public schools with high numbers of Hurricane Katrina evacuees, the Houston Chronicle reported.
"Mrs. Bush wanted to do something specifically for education and specifically for the thousands of students flooding into the Houston schools," the former
President Bush’s chief of staff Jean Becker said Thursday.
The money was donated to the Bush-Clinton Houston Hurricane Relief Fund, said Steve Maislin, president of the Greater Houston Community Foundation, which administers the fund. That fund has no connection to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund, he said.
Barbara Bush chose to promote Ignite because she supports her son and has genuine enthusiasm for his company’s program, Becker said.
Two years ago, the Houston school district board wrestled with conflict of interest concerns over the Ignite program. Neil Bush had helped raise $115,000 for the district’s philanthropic fund from donors who insisted the money be spent on his company’s software.
The district accepted the donations and used them to pay half the costs of new Ignite software, about $10,000 per school.
Currently, Houston public schools use 15 Ignite programs and the Houston area has 40 programs, said company president Ken Leonard.
Neil Bush founded the Austin-based company in 1999.
Since the AP released this story it has been picked up in the US, UK, and Australia. As time goes by the story is getting watered down by some news agencies in an attempt to spin Mrs. Bush as caring about the children affected by Katrina.
When the Queen of Mean visited these children stuck in the New Orleans Superdome back in December she audibly chuckled as she said: "So many of the people here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them. What I’m hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. Almost everyone I’ve talked to says: ‘We’re going to move to Houston’."
And the ever popular: "Why should we hear about body bags and deaths," Barbara Bush said on ABC’s "Good Morning America" on March 18, 2003. "Oh, I mean, it’s not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"
This is the woman that bore the evil seed of the Bush Administration, the pinnacle of family values. Too bad she didn’t give him any intelligence to go with that indifference.
Bush Push to be King Intensified
Bush asked the Congress to give him the line-item veto in his latest radio address. The line-item veto would allow the president to eliminate a single item in a tax or spending bill crafted by Congress. Sound familiar? It should. President Clinton received it in 1996 and used it 82 times before the Supreme Court struck it down in 1998.
In his majority opinion Justice John Paul Stevens upheld a lower court’s decision, concluding "the procedures authorized by the line-item veto act are not authorized by the Constitution."
If Congress wants to give the president that power, they will have to pass a constitutional amendment, Stevens said. "If there is to be a new procedure in which the president will play a different role in determining the text of what may become a law, such change must come not by legislation but through the amendment procedures set forth in Article V of the Constitution," Stevens said.
So what is more important here in terms of ammendments? Gay Marriage or line-item veto? Let’s also watch and see if it ends up at the Supreme Court again. In the 6-3 decision, the justices opposed to the Clinton line-item veto were Stevens, Rehnquist, Kennedy, Souter, Thomas, and Ginsburg. Scalia, O’Connor, and Breyer voted for the line-item veto.
With O’Connor and Rehnquist replacements, will the Court show partisanship? Will the Congress give up the power to declare war as well as the power of taxation to the president? Will George be King? God help us all.
Judge Alito Pledges Allegiance to Dobson
As you read this, think about all the lazy Dems that allowed this to happen….
In a radio Broadcast Wednesday, Dr. James Dobson read part of a letter he had received from the newest Supreme Court Judge Alito thanking him for his support. Dobson read “as long as I serve on the Supreme Court, I wil keep in mind the trust that has been placed in me”.
The note also read, “I would also greatly appreciate it if you would convey my appreciation to the good people from all parts of the country who wrote to tell me that they were praying for me and for my family.” Dobson took that as a green light to read it on the air.
Dobson said to his listeners, to celebrate the Supreme Court confirmations of both Justice Alito and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.. Dobson said, "We do not yet know how these men will vote, but every indication is that they get it, they understand."
Their confirmation may be "just in time," Dr. Dobson said, "because partial-birth abortion is now being considered by the Supreme Court."
The NYTimes reported Kathy Arberg, a spokeswoman for the court, said Justice Alito had written the note in response to a letter of congratulations from Dr. Dobson which is not uncommon for a newly appointed Justice to do. She declined to identify who else had received such letters from Justice Alito.
Did you go to church this Sunday? You’d better.
Whitehouse Denies Need for Spying Investigation
Democrat leaders have asked for an investigation into domestic spying. However, the Whitehouse continues to deny it has broken the law yet continues to admit spying on the American people without sealed warrants from the FISA court.
In a letter released Monday, 18 House Democrats told Bush that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales should appoint a special counsel to investigate the Whitehouse FISA violations. They stated that their efforts to get answers to legal and factual questions about the program have been stymied "generally based on the feeblest of excuses."
"If the effort to prevent vigorous and appropriate investigation succeeds, we fear the inexorable conclusion will be that these executive branch agencies hold themselves above the law and accountable to no one," wrote the lawmakers, led by Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) a member of the Judiciary and Homeland Security committees.
In the past the Whitehouse has always insisted that congressional approval for the president to go to war in 2001 gives Bush the right to spy on the American people, maintaining a vague allusion to authority to use military force to fight terrorism.
Recently, when asked at a press conference on February 27 about the letter the Democrats wrote, McClellen said the breaking of the law is a“hot pursuit effort aimed at detection and prevention of attacks before they occur”, consistently playing the fear card as an excuse to break the law.
He went on to claim that his lawyers (Bush appointed lawyers) said it was OK, therefore it has been “reviewed extensively”. He also said there was no basis for a special council investigation and said the real criminals are the whistleblowers who are putting our country in jeopardy by exposing their illegal spying.
Bush Tries to Save Face on Dubai Deal
Six years of ruling with an iron fist makes it hard to back down. After all, when you are always right, how can you possibly admit you may have been a bit hasty? The Bush administration has spent 6 years trying to convince Americans that Arabs are the enemy and it’s making it hard for them to make the Congress roll over as usual.
The newest spin on the Dubai Port deal has the UAE company itself asking Congress to review the transaction. Dubai executives and lobbyists are hard at work trying to sway the Republican congressional leaders who have been threatening to support some form of Congressional action next week including legislation to block the company from taking over.
Their first attempt to quell the controversy was an offer from Dubai on Thursday to close the deal but to "segregate" the American operations until further briefings were conducted on Capitol Hill. Fortunately Congress did not buy it.
Republican Port Deal Sells out America
Yesterday Bush vowed to veto any legislation from Congress that would block the sale of operations at six top U.S. seaports to a company controlled by the government of Dubai (CSX Corporation). Quite a strong stance considering that the decision was made without Bush’s knowledge. When initially asked about the deal two days ago, Bush said he was not aware of it. Now he’s touting the indepth process behind the decision.
Not only does Bush want to jepordize our port security by handing it over to a company from a country that produced two of the 9/11 hijackers, some democratic senators are raising concerns about a link between the treasury secretary’s former employer and the Arab company.
Treasury Secretary in the Bush Adminstration since 2003, John Snow, worked for about 20 years at the CSX as chairman and CEO. In December 2004, after Snow had left CSX, that company’s port business was sold to Dubai Ports World in a deal worth more than $1 billion. Snow received $72.2 million in compensation from CSX in 2003, including $33.2 million from a special retirement pension, Dodd said, citing press reports. Dodd said the press reports also said that Snow had a stake in a CSX deferred compensation plan worth between $5 million and $25 million.
Reminds me of Cheney and Halliburton.
The Congress (and I mean ALL of the Congress) is not happy with this deal. Neither are the American people. It’s about time we grew another branch of government.
Fiengold Nails Specter in a Lie During Wire Tap Hearing
Oh, where will the Republican lying and cheating end?
The Senate Judiciary committee met this morning to discuss the legalities of the latest Bush Wire Tapping activities. Remember when the Oil Executives testfied and the Republicans refused to put them under oath? Well they repeated their selective governing and extended that privledge to Attorney General, Alberto "torture is OK" Gonzales.
When the Democrats forced a vote on the issue, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA), declared his yes vote not to put Gonzales under oath, then took it upon himself to appoint himself proxy for Senator Brownback then declare a yes vote for him also.
As expected, the Dems all voted no, thereby voting to put Gonzales under oath. When the vote got to Fiengold, he requested Specter show him the poxy he received from Brownback (according to Senate rules, it must be written). Specter backed down just short of admitting he lied, then as the Chairman declared the yes vote prevailed.
There are 7 Republicans and 6 Democrats in the committee. In the result of a tie, the Chairman decides. Specter was trying to spare his party embarrassment of having to overule the Dems again, but Feingold forced his hand.
By allowing Gonzolas to testify not under oath, he can lie to his hearts content and not be procecuted for it. Nice.
The transcript follows:
SEN. ARLEN SPECTER, CHAIRMAN (R-PA): So the question is, should the ruling of the chair be upheld that Attorney General Gonzales not be sworn?
HATCH (R): Aye.
GRASSLEY (R): Aye.
DEWINE (R): Aye.
GRAHAM (R): Aye.
KYL (R): Aye.
CORNYN (R): Aye.
SPECTER: By proxy, for Sen. Brownback, aye. Sen. Coburn – We’ve got enough votes already. Sen. Leahy?
SEN. PATRICK LEAHY, RANKING DEMOCRAT: Emphatically, no.
KENNEDY (D): No.
BIDEN (D): No.
KOHL (D): No.
FEINSTEIN (D): No.
FEINGOLD (D): No.
SPECTER (R): Aye. The ayes have it.
FEINGOLD: Mr. Chairman, I request to see the proxies given by the Republican senators.
SPECTER: Could you repeat that Sen. Feingold?
FEINGOLD: I request to see the proxies given by the Republican senators.
SPECTER: The practice is to rely upon the staffers. But without counting that vote – Well, we can rephrase the question if there’s any serious challenge of the proxies. This is really not a very good way to begin this hearing.
Specter tries to blame staffers for his last minuite effort, but weilds his Chairman power to squash the honerable efforts of the Dems. At least he didn’t turn off his mike and stomp away this time.
